VMware has made vSphere 6.5 GA yesterday and like everyone, i was also very much excited to try the features and so i downloaded the software and started to setup my lab. As i do it i thought of blogging them just so that anyone can go through them and comes handy to me while preparing for the certification exams because there is always a chance of missing some silly things. So let me jump in.
I am using VMware Workstation for my labs and i created a VM with ESXi 6 as below. Let the VM boot from the ESXi 6.5 iso.
Once the kernel files load, hit Enter to continue further.
Accept the EULA by hitting F11.
The local disks and any attached devices should show up, select the disk and hit Enter.
Select the keyboard layout.
Hit F11 to Install the ESXi
Enter a password for the root account and Let the installation complete.
Enter to reboot the machine
Once the machine come up completely, hit F2 to configure the system as needed.
Nothing much changed in the installation as you might have already noticed. Of course, this cannot be any more simpler than this and so i believe VMware has not changed much since ESXi 4 days. You can access ESXi using the built in web client as below.
